27/01/2012 - SHOWBIZWORKS PRODUCE COMEDY CARPET LIVE WEEKEND - Showbizworks appointed to create and produce weekend of comedy for Blackpool with headliners Barry and Stuart from The Magician's

You'd be a fool to miss out on the laughs taking place in Blackpool this April as Marketing Blackpool has announced the launch of Comedy Carpet Live, a festival of shows created and produced by Showbizworks taking place over April Fool's weekend, 31st March and 1st April 2012. It is set to become an annual celebration the week before Easter, and is inspired by Blackpool's latest piece of public artwork, The Comedy Carpet on the Tower Festival Headland.

Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director of Marketing Blackpool said: "This event complements the success of the Comedy Carpet on the Tower Festival Headland and has been planned to help to kick start the season by bringing in visitors early for Easter. We intend to make this an annual event as Blackpool is steeped in comedy heritage making the town perfect for supporting new and established talent."

The live shows kick off on Saturday evening at 9.30pm, with the Merrie England Bar on North Pier hosting an adult comedy show starring Manchester based group Slaughterhouse Live. They already have a cult following on the comedy circuit and have had their own show on Granada, but incredibly, this will be their debut performance in Blackpool. Following sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, a critic from The List said: "This five-strong comedy cabaret pulsates with enough anarchic energy to power a small European principality."

On Sunday afternoon at North Pier Theatre, Comedy 4 Kids will provide something for children and families with an hour long show featuring CBBC and Royal Variety Show stars Big Howard and Little Howard; Show Me The Funny finalist Stuart Goldsmith; and Comedy 4 Kids star Tiernan Douieb, the latter of whom hopes to go on Dragon's Den to present his idea of putting zips on pitta breads!

The weekend culminates with the Comedy Carpet Live Gala Show at The Grand Theatre starring comedy illusionists Barry and Stuart from BBC television's prime time show The Magicians. Also on the bill will be musical comedy double act Frisky and Mannish (as heard on BBC Radio 1 and stars of their own sell out London Hammersmith Apollo and Edinburgh shows); ‘children's entertainer' Jeremy Lion (alter ego of Justin Edwards from Have I Got News For You and Mock The Week); comedy legend Bernie Clifton, who is featured on the promenade's Comedy Carpet; and Chris Ramsay, soon to be seen in his own BBC series, complete the line up. Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Jason Cook who has appeared on various TV comedy shows including Russell Howard's Good News.

Martin explained: "We wanted to create an event that could grow and evolve into something that would eventually drive significant business into the town by extending the start of the traditional season. Marketing Blackpool share that vision and Comedy Carpet Live will help to raise the profile of the new regenerated Blackpool and position the town as a platform for more contemporary artistes. We have tried to reflect this in the line-up of artistes with a nod to comedy legends. Many of the performers have not been seen in the town before and we are keen to break new ground with this event each year by placing Blackpool firmly back on the map for attracting the best comedy talent."

Tickets for the shows are available from 10am on Monday 30 January. For further information, or to book tickets, please click Visit Blackpoolor call 01253 478222

04/06/2009 - THE LIGHTYEARS EXCLUSIVELY WITH SHOWBIZWORKS - Showbizworks entertainment agency appointed to solely represent The Lightyears

Described by Rob Wright from The Times as "The hottest independent band in London" and by State Magazine in Ireland as "Babyshambles with better manners", four piece band The Lightyears has appointed Showbizworks.com to represent them worldwide.

Martin Blore, director of Showbizworks.com said of the signing: "With a new album just released and an impressive line-up of live performances and corporate events already in the diary, this is going to be a very busy year for The Lightyears. We are constantly on the look-out for artistes that bring something innovative and edgy to the live entertainment scene and these four guys tick all the boxes, we are very excited to be working with them."

The Lightyears were voted ‘Best Pop/Rock Act' at the Indy Awards 2007 and have appeared at Glastonbury for three consecutive years. As well as recording and performing their own original songs, (working with producer Hugh Padgham who has worked with Sting, Paul McCartney, Elton John etc), for corporate events and private parties the band also perform covers of pop classics from The Killers and Snow Patrol to Erasure and The Cure.

The Lightyears are currently performing at the Queen's Birthday Ball in Seoul, Korea for the fourth consecutive year and they have also been invited back to headline again at the Rugby Tens Tournament in South Africa in 2010. 29/05/2009 - HENRY PRIESTMAN AVAILABLE THROUGH SHOWBIZWORKS.COM - Book Henry Priestman for your corporate entertainment

Liverpool's finest Henry Priestman is now available to book for private and corporate events through entertainment agency Showbizworks.com Henry will release a new digital single, a virtual double A side, on June 28th ‘09. Side A features ‘He Ain't Good Enough For You', a wry letter from a father to his daughter, which is taken from Henry's acclaimed debut ‘The Chronicles Of Modern Life'. The other side A features ‘The Coolest Dance (Irish Jig)' a brand new song written and performed by Henry, which sounds like a collision between the Waterboys and Elvis Costello in an Irish pub at closing time.

"He Ain't Good Enough For You" is a beautiful slice of poignant singer/songwriter pop that describes how every father feels when Daddy's Girl makes to flee the nest -

"He ain't good enough for you and it hurts
But I know that you could do so much worse…
But the thing that's really frightening
Is I think I was just like him and it hurts."

"The Coolest Dance (the Irish Jig)" is an unabashed clash of pop/rock with a generous helping of the f word (folk). It's a joyous comparison between the cold impersonal feeling of a lavish corporate event and the warmth and joy of a ‘St Patricks Day' party, celebrated in a local pub, ‘The Little Green'.

Henry Priestman is one of Liverpool's most colourful characters and is a major player and songwriter on the Liverpool music scene. The former keyboard and guitar player and principle songwriter for 3 million selling The Christians and It's Immaterial fought the punk wars (supporting the Sex Pistols with Yachts in 1977), worked alongside Glen Matlock and Suggs in Bette Bright's The Illuminations and performed with a roll call of North West luminaries that has included The Lightning Seeds, Johnny Marr, Ian McCulloch, Pete Wylie, Ian McNabb and Echo & The Bunnymen.

Described by Radio 2's Johnny Walker as "Grumpy Old Men set to music", Henry Priestman's album ‘The Chronicles Of Modern Life' was released on 26 January 2009 and features 12 tracks of self-penned barbed observations generated from life experiences, striking a chord with listeners across generations.

‘The Chronicles Of Modern Life' is an album that could only come from a man who has seen it all. Originally recorded just for fun at his home studio, the album immediately captured the imagination of Johnny Walker and Terry Wogan at Radio 2 and after an avalanche of public response to the single ‘Grey's The New Blonde' on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Henry Priestman signed his first ever solo deal with Universal Records. For more information click Henry Priestman and book him for your corporate event entertainment.
