Right Said Fred

Right Said Fred

When asked which song he wished he'd written, Sting replied that it had to be ‘I'm Too Sexy'. When your first single coins the term ‘globally evergreen', is it possible to follow up?

Originally released in 1991, ‘I'm Too Sexy' sold over 6 million copies worldwide, was number 1 in 30 countries (including for 3 weeks in America making Right Said Fred the first British act to accomplish that feat with a debut single since the Beatles) and was number 2 in Britain for 6 weeks.

To date, ‘I'm Too Sexy' alone has sold over 18 million units and is the most synchronised song in the last 10 years. The global appeal of I'm Too Sexy has produced a diverse and surprising employment of the song, from The US Senate to The Simpsons. Howard Stern has regularly used it in his show, as has the WWF, Spin City, Sex & The City, Grumpy Old Men, Prêt À Porter, Bedazzled, and even US presidential candidate John Kerry announced he was too sexy for his shirt.

As Bono recited the lyrics to open a U2 world tour, PM Dawn used the song to close theirs and whilst Tom Hanks (Saturday Night Live) and Cameron Diaz (The Sweetest Thing) sing about how sexy they are, the song continues to be the No1 reason for school truancy, one man died in a lap-dancing club from ‘unnatural excitement' during
a ‘performance' and Madonna tells MTV she wants to bed Richard Fairbrass as he is one of the sexist men in the world. Now Daz have followed Kodak, Mondeo and Toyota by using ‘I'm Too Sexy' in their TV advertising campaign.

With 2 Ivor Novello Awards (1992, 1993 Most Performed Songs – I'm Too Sexy and Deeply Dippy), and countless sold out tours, Right Said Fred continue to enjoy challenging the music industry and the publics' expectations.

Although continued UK chart success has been erratic in the UK, with 2 further Top 5 Hits (Don't Talk Just Kiss was Top 5 in 25 countries and No 1 in America!) and 5 albums to date, ‘the Freds' have continued to work and enjoy touring and special appearances due to their wide ranging global appeal. From The Bollywood Awards, (Best International Act in 2002) to their largest audience, an estimated 200,000 at the Nuremberg Gates in Berlin for the opening ceremony of the 2006 Football World Cup.

Right Said Fred have now re-signed to their original label in the UK (Gut Records) and the new album in 2008 will be supported by live shows.
